CAN HE FIND A WEAPON IN
YOU?
Text: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more
abundantly. John 10:10
Our text makes us to understand
what a thief comes to do. But the thief in this context is the Devil, the enemy
of light and truth. He is the thief in question.
Well, it may please you to know
that the devil is very cynical in his dealings. It may please you to also know
that devil has no single weapon, not even a razor blade. The Bible says his
first mission is to steal. He comes in when you are too relaxed, or when you
have allowed complacency. When he gets in to steal, he finds the weapon to kill
and utterly destroy right inside his victims.
The devil just comes in as a
lone-ranger, without a defense; which is why he will flee when we resist him.
But once he lays hold on his weapon inside of you, resisting Him might not be
as easy as it sounds.
Little wonder the bible says we’ll
bring all disobedience to judgment when our own obedience has been fulfilled (2
cor. 10:6). That is, those covert weapons must be dealt with first.
Do you know the weapon the devil
found in Moses? Moses was a good man to the core. He showed compassion and
interceded for the Israelites time and again. He was a true leader who puts his
followers first. He was a moral legend. But before his known heroic deeds, his
temperance was tested once and he failed. But because no one questioned him, he
felt it was right for the moment, he saw that anger as nothing. That anger in
him felt like a pet always left lying on its own and was barely tested. It took
almost a century before Moses’ anger and temperance could be tested again. It’s
a pity that this time he failed badly. The devil knew what a champion Moses
will be, so the devil infiltrated him and used the weapon of anger against him.
Do you believe that a weapon was also
found in the life of Prophet Elisha? Of a truth, Elisha got infested with the
double portion of Elijah’s power. But the third time he used the power was
where he started missing it. In the book of 2 kings 2:23-25, the Bible reveals that
he cursed some boys because they made fun of him, two female bears came out and
devoured the forty-two boys at his word. Yes many will say “but the boys
shouldn’t have made fun of him” but God doesn’t understand that at all. The
weapon the devil found in Elisha was misuse of
God’s power, despite having double portion of Elijah’s power, he ended up
dying of a miserable ailment. The power was still there, but he should have ended
his journey in a better way. Even on his sick bed he placed a curse on King
Jehoash of Israel, 2 Kings 13: 14 19.
David also brought a curse upon
the family and they were really dealt with, even that period was the worst of David’s
life. He started out by marrying Abigail because her husband was dead, the
devil saw this and deciphered his weakness, then he pushed Bathsheba to David,
and it was a boom! It led to other sins and David almost became an object of
ridicule. Same was with Samson and his end wasn’t desirable.
Judas had love of money as the
weapon in him, Saul had disobedience, many fire brand Christians have loose tongues
some have been sold to drinking. The devil has laid hold on these weapons and
thereby bending the hearts of men at will.
Cry out to the lord, rely on his
strength, walk in the spirit and it shall be well with you.
