THE MIND OF CHRIST
Text: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ
Jesus: Philippians 2:5
A closer look at Jesus and the success His ministry had while
on earth, His approach to issues, and His uniqueness even in the image of man. Something
extremely special was at work in Him, and this is why our text is admonishing
us to make room for this special mind – The Mind of Christ.
What Made the Mind of
Christ so special? What was this mind made of?
Let’s carefully examine Isaiah 11:1-3
“1. And there shall
come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his
roots:
2. And the spirit of
the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the
spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the
Lord;
3 And shall make him of
quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the
sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:”
Isaiah 11:1 describes Jesus Christ and His origination
Isaiah 11:2 gave an insight into what and what makes the mind
of Christ:
a.
The
Spirit of the Lord
b.
The
Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding
c.
The
Spirit of Counsel and Might
d.
The
Spirit of Knowledge and fear of the Lord.
Considering all these virtues that listed above, a believer will
know that when we have all these, we will do greater works as Christ had
assured.
All these virtues culminated into Christ’s unique nature
while here on earth. Isaiah 11:3 tells us what all these virtues helped Christ
to achieve.
”And shall make him of quick
understanding in the fear of the Lord:
and he shall not judge after the
sight of his eyes,
neither reprove after the hearing of
his ears:”
Let’s delve into all these virtues…
The Spirit of the Lord; It’s the most important of them all. Without the Spirit of
the Lord, other virtues will not manifest. The other virtues are gifts and
evidences that a person is spirit filled. The other virtues come after the
infilling of God’s Spirit.
“And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my spirit
upon all flesh; and your sons and
your daughters shall
prophesy, your old men shall dream
dreams your
young men shall see visions:” Joel 2:28
The Spirit of the Lord bears witness for every believer that
we are sons of God. Without the Spirit of God, your adoption process is
incomplete!
The Spirit of Wisdom
and Understanding;
refers to God’s supernatural intelligence that believers partake of. Hidden
mysteries that are only unveiled by the Spirit. Mysteries that a natural man
will never uncover even if he uses the Bible as a head rest at nights. Little
wonder that Eunuch of Ethiopia did not receive any insight when he was reading
the book of Isaiah. A natural man cannot receive these things; they can only be
spiritually discerned. The Spirit of Understanding helps us to comprehend those
mysteries delivered to us by the spirit of wisdom.
The Spirit of Counsel
and Might; is the
presence of God in us to guide us supernaturally into His perfect will. The Spirit
of counsel many times unleashes the gift of word of knowledge, and then in line
with the revealed word of knowledge, it gives directions towards solutions. The
Spirit of counsel shows up to solve dicey situations; it encourages us in times
of hardship and troubles. The spirit of counsel releases the might of God.
After counsels have been given out, the might of God enables us to carry out
and execute those counsels.
The Knowledge and Fear
of the Lord; the
knowledge of the Lord is leaving the physical, the ordinary, the natural to
delve into the Supernatural Nature of God’ knowing God than ever before. When
we know God in totality, His fear sets in. A holy reverence and awe towards
God. When we know Him more, we will have this fear for Him.
Remember; let this mind be in you, which was in Christ Jesus.
