CHECK-UP
Text: Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.
Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye
be reprobates? 2 Corinthians 13:5
Check-Up is a set of words majorly used in health talks. Literally, it means "checking or testing to be double sure that a thing is still in a state of normalcy". Just like we have medical check-ups, we also have spiritual check-ups.
Spiritual Check-Up is not just a regular monthly routine like a medical check-up is. Spiritual check-up is a daily activity of examination expected of every child of God.
After our salvation, we don't just cruise around town carelessly. We don't just assume there is nothing more to watch out for. Just as it is with maintaining a stable health, so it is with holding on to salvation. If anyone deals carelessly with the issue of salvation, same is well-poised to lose it.
When last did I have my check-up?
Do I really need a check-up?
Is my life of holiness in a state of normalcy?
What signs are hanging freely to show that I am long overdue for a check-up?
Watch Out For These Signs!!!
When some mundane things start taking the place of Christ in your life, be careful! This is modern daily idolatry. You may not have to set up and worship a graven image. But do you skip service time for less-worthy activities? Do you do things and assume that God understands? Do you value the presence of men than of God? You are an idolater! Do you get so involved with modern gadgets such that you keep divine assignments waiting? I can boldly tell you that you are due for check-up.
When you make compromises. It doesn't have to be a big compromise. It could be as small and innocent as lying to cover-up a late colleague at work. It could be as small as plucking vegetables from your neighbour's garden with proper permission. You need a check-up if you do all these things and many more with the thought that: "God understands and He is merciful", you definitely need check-up.
Do you think you have gotten to a certain height with the Holy Spirit and thus check-ups are no longer relevant to you, I leave you with 1 Corinthians 10:12; "if any man thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he falls."
