TAKE YOUR EYE
OFF THE SIDE MIRROR
Text: Philippians 3:13-14
Life is a
race. An unending race. However, life is not the kind of race where we look out
for the first, second or third positions. It is a race of destiny. A race where
getting to the finish line is all that matters. Little wonder this race is not
for the swift;
“I returned,
and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle
to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of
understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to
them all.” - Ecclesiastes 9:11.
When we drive
in our cars on a smooth, long road, we get to come across other drivers,
potholes or even ditches (in some countries of the world). Sometimes, we aim to
overtake other drivers, at other times, they outsmart us. When we drive, we are
of the habit of keeping track of other cars and drivers through our side mirrors.
Unfortunately, in the race of life, many believers have taken a long drift off
the focus in a bid to keep track of the past.
When we give
the past too much attention, we automatically lose sight of the great things right
ahead of us. The past could entail previous achievements and attainments or
even disappointments. But, please take your eyes off the side mirror because no
one makes accelerated progress by dwelling on the past; the windscreen have a
lot more to offer.
